Everywhere I look I see New York Mets fans saying the Mets should sign Manny Ramirez.  Is there anybody that doesn’t want Manny Ramirez?

Left and right New York Mets fans are suggesting that New York Mets should sign Manny Ramirez.  Right now it seems that the Mets name might still be in the mix but only as a long shot after the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants.

The fans aren’t the only ones that have said they want Manny Ramirez.  David Wright was asked if he wanted Manny Ramirez on the team and he also said he wouldn’t mind having Manny Ramirez.  Jerry Manuel said earlier this week that he wanted Manny Ramirez on the Mets.  So the players want Manny Ramirez.  The fans want Manny Ramirez.  The manager wants Manny Ramirez.  Who doesn’t want Manny Ramirez?

It’s Omar Minaya of course.  At least, that’s what Jeff Wilpon will have you believe.  Jeff Wilpon said last week that he hasn’t turned down the idea of signing Manny Ramirez because Omar Minaya hasn’t proposed the idea.

Yeah right.  I’m sure it’s Omar Minaya that doesn’t want Manny Ramirez.  Minaya has only been trying to trade for Manny Ramirez for a few years, why would he possibly want Manny Ramirez now without having to give up any prospects??  Omar Minaya was born in the Dominican Republic and we all know that has influenced him in some of his decisions.  Why in the world would he want possibly the best Dominican baseball player in baseball history??

If Manny Ramirez ends up a Los Angeles Dodger or San Francisco Giant then nobody should believe that it is because of Omar Minaya.  Steve Phillips went on the Max Kellerman show last week and explained that this is how Wilpon often tries to spin things.  Phillips said that it’s possible Minaya really hasn’t proposed getting Manny Ramirez, but if he hasn’t it’s because he already knows Wilpon will say no, not because he doesn’t want Manny.

I love that Jerry Manuel came out and said he wanted Manny Ramirez though.  Let’s put some pressure on Wilpon to make a decision.  It would be great to have a player come on and say they wanted Manny Ramirez too.  Sure, David Wright said he wouldn’t mind having Manny Ramirez but he wasn’t very emphatic about it.  I love David Wright but I think sometimes he tries too hard to “say the right thing” and not say what needs to be said.  Wright, Johan Santana, Carlos Beltran or Carlos Delgado should come right out and say they want Manny Ramirez.  Don’t wait for a reporter to ask about the topic, just bring it up yourself.

Maybe if the manager and one of the stars put a little pressure on Wilpon then Omar Minaya can go to Wilpon and put on the final pressure by proposing to sign Manny Ramirez.
